Photographer's Note
Zabriskie Point is probably the most photographed spot in Death Valley. People arrive early to catch the sun's rays lighting the colorful yellow siltsone and claystone, including dark layers of basalt lava flows.
The prominent feature is Manly Beacon, a sharp peak.
The photographer is doing it 'old-school' with his 10 inch box camera. He admitted to being quite happy with using his film camera, because it forces him to concentrate and the resulting images are much higher resolution. No need to hurry and click away with a slr digital camera.
From this spot, one can hike downwards to the left and eventually meet up with the Golden Canyon trail. The movie "GERRY" was filmed in Death Valley. Starring Matt Damon and Casey Afleck, directed by Gus van Sant. Two young men get lost wandering in the desert. The flick is loaded with existenstial symbolism and the big treat is the Valley.
Sunset is also a good Kodak Moment time here with the sun setting over the distant Panamint Mountains and the Valley lying below.

Hi Ray,
Zabriskie point is one of the most amazing spots I had the chance to see during my US trip.
I loved the blue sky and the yellow burned borax hill pattern.
bye
Silvio
PS: this is my POV on zabriskie point

Hi, Ray.
Zabriskie Point... I heard of it for the fist time thanks to Michelangelo Antonioni's 1970 masterpiece, and almost four decades later I still can't think of it without being reminded of Pink Floyd's "Careful With That Axe, Eugene"... I've seen Gerry too, by the way.
COOl shot! The positioning of the photographer is perfect, excellent light management, colors and definition. The overall mood is however its strongest feature, this looks, sounds, and even smells like Death Valley! Have a good day, I'll be seeing ya.
Fulvio.

A good choice to leave the photographer in the scene. It adds some creativity to this familiar sight. Nicely done Ray.
