Photographer's Note
It was incredibly cold and windy on the day I took this at the Great Sand Dunes National Park (it's especially unnerving to try to take photos in blowing sand!). Although it didn't rain, the sky was overcast and stormy, which washed out the color in many of the photos I took but made for some interesting skies. I think the black and white conversion really brings out the different textures in the sand and sky in this photo and lends an otherworldly feel to the landscape.

This photo is a great choice for B&W. Color would only distract from the natural textures and images in the scene. I also like the grainy nature of the print, which echoes the underlying graininess of the sand in the dunes. Good range of light as well. Great capture.

Hello Essie, good B&W picture with nice composition as abstract painting. Stormy clouds & diagonal directions of sand mountains are amazing. Well done! Irek
