Photographer's Note
Continuing west on Route 66 from Albuquerque we unexpectedly came across a Roping event (between Budville and Grants).
Team roping is a rodeo event. Two riders rope the steer, one around the horns and the other around the hind feet. There were several teams and it was an interesting event to photograph. There were no seats and, apart from the competitors and their families, there were very few other spectators. This meant that we could wander around and view from the fence.

Ciao Ann
bravissima!
Bravissima.
Ciao e buon inizio di settimana

Hello Ann,
Today we are neighbours on TE, but it's a great shame that there was no new picture uploaded here for 45 minutes.
This is a wonderfully well timed photo with great action. There is strength and speed expressed in nearly every detail, lots of exciting dust and a very eye-catching green rope. The light is very well managed although I can imagine the conditions were not perfect. I am impressed by the fine sharpness, considering that everything must have been moving all the time.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Ann,
Wow! I could just imagine you having a go at this! Hee, hee.
How fortunate you were that there were so few spectators and you managed literally to get a "ring side" viewpoint. For you have caught a photograph with amazing action: the taut rope, the whirling lasso, the steer wildly bucking to one side, the horses quickly turning - and all against a wonderful backgound of dust kicked up by the three powerful beasts.
A brilliant action shot and a very fine note to accompany it.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Ann, pushing up the ISO helped you to freeze all the action in this well taken shot, the flying dust and the whirling lariats plus the galloping horses all add up to a most dramatic photo.
Very nicely done.
Kind regards Les.

Full of action and very well managed Ann. I'm impressed by the way each element is isolated with no overlap and together they fill the frame as a wonderful whole. Not easy to get the subjects separate at this rate of movement but you convey the sense of speed and action really convincingly here. The dust is great emphasising the speed and tight turns. Clever girl! Warm regards rosemary

Hi Ann
I have to be honest....i'm not a fan of these Rodeo type of events, and how the animals are treated just for our 'enjoyment'
same for how in Europe with the Bulls in the large ring..so sad.
but from a photography point of view you did a masterful job. the 1500 shutter speed captured the moment perfectly and sharply, and I like the large green rope in the air for action.
looks like you're enjoying your trip!!!!
cheers

Hi Ann
Good action shot of unfortunate animal domestically bred to allow humans to exhibit physical domination for entertainment value! You have captured the action really well, superb timing as rodeo happens so quickly it is easy to miss the critical moment, you didn't. A brain and eye behind the camera is equally important to capture this action. Simply great, TFS
Kind regards

Well taken we can feel the movement with the dust, the cow head, the horses legs. the dynamism is reinforced by the diagonal lines (lasso and horse).

Hi Ann,
This one is perfect on very tricky circumstances. Fast action, right timing with the calf just caught. And they all are within depth of field. That cloud of dust enhances contrast well.

Hello Ann,
quite a decisive moment. The rope clearly visible behind the rider, the forefeet of the cow mid air, the dust clouding part of the background, you've captured it all in a graceful and dynamic composition. Congratulations,

Ciao Ann
questa foto mi era sfuggita.
Bella scena, molto dinamica e accattivante, un'azione che tutti conosciamo attraverso il cinema e la televisione, ma che pochi hanno avuto la fortuna di vedere dal vivo.
Uno scatto molto bello.
