Photographer's Note
I know I will not get much critique here, I just want to show a few snap shots of the event and wish an early "Happy Swiss National Day!" To Barbara and some of my TE Friends from Switzerland.
Every year in the Los Angeles Area, there is a small celebration on the last Sunday of July just before August 1, Swiss National Day. On that day, many Swiss people who live in the Southern California comes together to celebrate their National Day.
This is the third time I went to the event. Off course there are traditional food, my favorites are Schblig & Bratwurst. They even have Raclette in the middle of the summer The smell of the burn cheese just isn稚 appealing in the hot summer day, but for nostalgic reason people still enjoy it with cold beer.
Here I have seen more Swiss traditions than when I was in Switzerland.

Hello Way,
A very original shot, and a clever way to post several pictures in one day. It's very Swiss and yodely and in a way very exotic. If this had been the celebration of the Swedish national day I would probably have had enough of it very quickly. But it's a pretty and lighthearted collection of glimpses.
Kind regards,
Gert

Your remark about seeing more Swiss traditions than in Switzerland is an interesting one. I've heard it said about other countries how expats carry on traditions that die out in the original country.
Good way to show the event, as the whole presentation tells us more than an individual photo could do. It fits the TE mission perfectly.

Hi Way,
it's a real postcard, for sure! Great festival images.
But you know why you saw more "traditions" here than in Switzerland? When the traditions come to the States, they have to go through Hollywood first. :-)) The real stuff is always different.
You don't hear the Alphornblaeser in town. You have to be on an alp for the real thing - and that means walking for hours. Sometimes I hear them here in Buchenberg, but they're very, very far away.
Still, I think it's great that festivals like these are celebrated, just to show people what traditions are practiced in other countries.
Have a good night and take care,
Linda

Hi Way, I am not enthusiastic about such collages on TE but I find it here interesting idea. Indeed, ypou have a piece of Switzerland In the neighbourhood of LA. I suppose that you can have also other national days. No Polish Day? I like most this elder accordionist. Good bratwurst is not a bad idea... But where is Milka?
Have a nice weekend

Ciao Way! Oh dear, how funny, Swiss National Day in the LA area. I really wonder now if my Swiss-American guest father (I stayed at their house for half a year when I took an English class at Foothill College) has been to this Fest, he must have, I am pretty sure. He is forever homesick and yet could never live in Switzerland again. In fact he is here right now ... and his son and family. We have fondue tonight :))) So the circle is completed with your wonderful photo gift ... We have a little bit of California in my house tonight and you have some Switzerland in LA ... I love THESE things, this is why we travel, and this is why we are here on TE, to share such moments. Actually the Swiss community is very strong in the States, I remember that he had a Swiss-American newspaper but also the NZZ ... You like Schueblig and Bratwurst, same with me. I also love raclette in the middle of summer, I have it all the time ... easy to handle and so so good. Yes Meringuen Ice cream by Moevenpick, I love it. I guess I am getting hungry, lunch time not far :)))
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for this ... as an 1/4 Appenzellerin these traditions are still somewhere in my mind ... Barbara.

Hi Way,
Making a collage was an excellent choice here, giving a wider idea of celebrations. Traditional clothes wide smiles and all those flags make this interesting to look at.

Hello Way
A superb montage of the Swiss National Day in LA. Each image compliments the others. Good repetition of the red & white Swiss flag. Have a great Sunday!

Hi Way
You are really forcing my hand, I'm Swiss and have not been back to Switzerland since I left for Asia in 1987. Also this year I was invited to the national day celebration at the Swiss embassy in Bangkok, but I was busy. There is one particular reason I avoid to go: I either have to wear the national dress (I do not have one) or a suit (I do not like suits).
Yes you are perfectly right, when you go to any Swiss national day celebration abroad, you will see much more tradition then in Switzerland itself. Your colorful pictures give a very good idea about Swiss traditions, congrats. Your colors are vivid, the sharpness is fine, well done. Enjoy your Schblig and Bratwurst!!!
Best regards
Urs

Hi Way!
Well, I think this is an interesting post, and I like the way you have put different photos together to make it like a picture postcard!
In fact, some photos could have made the subject of an individual post, like the portraits of the accordeon player,or the guy in the blue waistcoat...
A very good summary of what seems to be a very enjoyable event!
Thanks for sharing!
Marie Louise.

Hi Way, I was feeling kinda Swiss today, so thought I'd critique your photo. That's not to say I'm neutral about your photo, I like it alot. The montage effect is great and it's alsways good to show the traditions and festivities of other cultures. TFS and I hope you have a happy day, Lisa

Sabaidee Way
Love it, something completely different, well done Way even more so considering the lengths you had to go to, to achieve the results you wanted. A nice warm festive pictures cleverly arranged well exposed and good variation of colors, events and characters unifying all the different activities and holds them all together making this a very effective montage. Great ideas and excellent approach. Well done, TFS
