Cloudy Cleveland

Our next stop, albeit pretty brief, was the city of Cleveland. We arrived late in the afternoon and only stayed till noon the following day, which left us with only little time to explore the city. It was a pretty cloudy morning, but heavy rain would not arrive until after our departure, which gave us a chance to get an impression of the city centre.

Cleveland is the second-largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio (almost 400,000 inhabitants). Located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, it was founded in 1796 by European Americans, who named it after their leader General Moses Cleaveland. The photo was taken at Public Square, the central plaza in downtown Cleveland. Seen here is Key Tower, the tallest tower in Ohio (289m), designed by C駸ar Pelli and completed in 1991.

Hi Lars,a quick stop there as i can read but enough to have an idea of Cleveland,the tower is very big,you were lucky to leave before the rain,the clouds are perfect to complete the composition and i can see a nice sun reflection on the windows too,well done! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Lars, Quick stop in Cleveland but probably enough to see the most interesting (the highest buildings). I like more the older building, in the strong red colour. Cleveland has a very famous orchestra, a pity you could not hear them playing. Nice scenes in the street level.

Another great image of the urban landscape of America. I have never been to Cleveland. I have been to Cincinnati and Toledo. You have a knack for these types of images. nice capture

Bonjour, cher Lars,
Cette tour est impressionnante � c� de l'immeuble en brique rouge. C'est une autre vie que d'habiter dans ces immeubles imposants ou de travailler (quoique, cela soit un peu diff駻ent).
Je remarque que la ville a pens� aux personnes handicap馥s pour les fauteuils roulants (sauf erreur).
Belle proposition.

Hello Lars,
There used to be a British comic duo called Little and Large, they immediately came to mind when I saw the thumbnail :-) I like the framing and the presence of the people who give scale to the scene. Well realised with excellent colours and clarity despite the inhospitable weather.

Hello Lars,

A good upward pov with the skyscraper dominating the scene. The smaller red building at left adds an asymmetrical balance and rthe zebra crossing provides good lead in lines. Excellent sharpness and perspective. Tfs!

Cleveland 舐 en helt anonym stad f mig, men detta 舐 ju en imponerande och riktigt attraktiv syn. Key Tower g stort intryck, kanske f att det st蚌 ganska ensamt, utan konkurrens fr蚣 tiotals andra lika ha byggnader. Den bruna mindre byggnaden bredvid 舐 lika vacker p� sitt s舩t men tillh en annan tids虱der. Du f蚣gade dem fint tillsammans och med lite liv och "natur" i fgrunden.

Hello Lars, I am impressed that you managed to get the whole tower into the shot, and yet we feel to be so close to its' base.
Love the sun reflected on the upper part, it gives a focal point to the building.
The height of the red brick building seems to emphasise the height of Key tower.

This building looks magnificent on its neighbors, who do not approach its great height, the street looks quiet with few people and no cars ahead as in so many places.
A good photo, with natural colors, very lighting and excellent sharpness.

Not an easy task to show a tower from such a relative close POV - but you managed a full view from street level up to its top, with fine clarity and good use of the mild light condition.

Ook zo'n foto waarbij grote gebouwen toch heel klein lijken omdat er een reusachtig torengebouw naast gekomen is.
Naast fotografie heb je een grote interesse voor moderne architectuur en toch ook een voorliefde voor grote steden.
De personen op de voorgrond zorgen voor een meer relaxte sfeer.
Een bewolkte lucht maar de zon krijgt een prachtige weerkaatsing in de ramen van het hoge gebouw.
Mooie presentatie.

The contrast between the styles of these buildings is quite evident here, and this is what makes this photo so interesting! The reflection of the sun on the windows of this tall building is a beautiful detail of the image! Very nice composition!

I like it! We don't see many shots from Cleveland on TE. I have never been here, but I get the sense it's a hard working man's town, factory worker types, real hard working people. Maybe i'm wrong...who knows. and you know these leaning sky scrapers don't bother me at all, infact I love it. wonderful UP shot, lets see more, and who cares about the weather :)

Ik heb mijn foto痴 er nog even bij gehaald. Cleveland is een stad met twee gezichten. Er zijn genoeg aantrekkelijke dingen te zien maar toch ook afgewisseld door minder aantrekkelijke gebouwen. De stad heeft niet het elan van b.v. Pittsburgh of tegenwoordig ook weer Detroit. Enfin ik zal er t.z.t. ook wel wat van laten zien.

Lars, the Key tower is dominating the public square in Cleveland. The passer-by and the persons sitting in the square indicate its scale. A green space is planned at the foot of the tall building. Good vertical framing.
