Photographer's Note
It has been a great chance during the school holidays for me to play with my photography whilst the lots are not so much on a schedule.
This is the one of the jetties in the town called Long Jetty and this is indeed the "long" jetty. There are 5 or 6 of them along the shoreline.
I wonder if anyone has any tips on correct photography etiquette regarding landscape photography?
I had a very interesting encounter on last nights shoot.

Ciao Kathryn
Saluti

Hello Kathryn - A lovely shot with a strong compositional element provided by the jetty. The challenging light has been handled well but I would try and bring in a little more detail in both the bright and shadowed areas of the shot with a little dodging and burning if possible. I had a look at the histogram and at both ends of the graph the details are clipped a little. I love the colour palette and overall mood here.
Your note about etiquette intrigues me.... it is a little unspecific can you give a little more detail?
Have a good weekend and warm regards

Hello Kathryn,
chasing the light and nailing it:) I like very much your composition with the jetty entering dynamically from the right and running decisively towards the light. It's as if it had hit that distant spot in the horizon and as if the bright, "explosive" light is an effect of the jetty touching that spot. The colours are wonderful and the clouds evoke smooth movement. Congratulations and thank you! I haven't encountered problems with very busy vantage points on my quiet island yet:) so I haven't got any worthy advice to give you on the etiquette:)
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hi Kathryn,
Quite efficient perspective where that jetty directs right at the setting sun. Beautiful colours although the warm glow around the sun is overexposed. I suppose grad filter does not help much on this case where the brightest spot is on the centerline. Good candidate for HDR I think.
Landscape photography is one of the most peaceful hobbies around, so it's hard to imagine how to break etiquette on such action.
