Photographer's Note
Great Southern Land
Standing at the limit of an endless ocean
stranded like a runaway, lost at sea
City on a rainy day down in the harbour
watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay
Looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you
this is not the way that I remember it here
anyone will tell you it痴 a prisoner island
hidden in the summer for a million years
This verse, from the famous song by Icehouse describes Australia in a unique way. This haunting song rang in my head while walking around a rainy day on Sydney Harbour, watching the grey clouds shadow the bay. While sitting under one of the shells of the Opera House, I saw this sleek information sign in front of the Harbour Bridge. Not your usual two icon shot!
The weather on this particular day was inclement; the bridge was almost totally invisible in a few moments time. The B&W mode gave me the best shade gradient possible and on this day, colour did little to help! The only minor adjustment I made was to select the opera house sign and highlight separately. The image was run through Neat Image software.

At first I thought you had a collage here, then I realized the picture on the right is a sign. Good capture and interesting idea to present this image Matt. The dual colours work great to give the scene character and mood. Thanks and have a nice weekend :-)

Hi Matt,
Great shot and very clever and creative! I like the POV showing both the harbour bridge and sign with the opera house. The strong contrasts between the black, white and gray tones is very artistic and well encapsulated in the black frame. Well seen and captured!

Another really great shot, Matt! It may be not so lucrative in terms of contrast and color as your other shots are (it simply does not extra color here), but it surely is very creative, I really like it a lot. The framing is just perfect, and the union of two symbols on the single shot, in such an usual way, is surely well done. Very unusual and truly great shot!
Regards,
Anton
