Morning Surf, a photo from Queensland, East

Another shot from Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast.

This was taken at sunrise and this surfer had climbed on the rock to check out the waves before deciding to give it a go.

As I sat watching the sunrise the surfers started to arrive, they climb over the rockpools to a gap in the rocks and launch themselves into the swell and then ride the waves into the mouth of the river. It looked a bit dangerous but they seem to have the launch down to a fine art.

Hi Jude. I think that you have captured very nicely the special relationship that surfers have with the sea. the lone figure looking at the body of water, gauging its mood, secrets; while the sea comes close to him as if to pull him into its bosom. Solitude and harmony. Nice. Regards. Klaudio.

Dear Jude,

A very nice mood, also the light looks very warm and smooth. The water bouncing against the rocks is great timing, just as the silhouette of the man passing by. There is some strange noise in the sky on the darker parts....easy to remove, so it doesn't disturb me that much...

Hi Jude.
Great shot with superb atmosphere. I like the fact that there is detail present in the form of the surfer, and the lens you have used makes the spray look as though it is about to drench him. The really fast shutter was a good choice to capture the water so sharply. I like the gradient in the sky and the clouds in the sky just above the horizon.

a classic composition but very well carried out. think I woud have cropped a bit of this sky though to give the surfer more impact.

Hi Jude, nice idea, showing the silhouette of the surfer, still obvious what he is about due to the shape of his board, and next to the splashing waves. My suggestion for cropping would be to lose some of the shore on the right and a little of the sky (although not much as it is already quite a long image). cheers, steve

This one required a slightli longer look to 'open'. But silhouette of a surfer with that spray is actually quite fascinating. Not the most colourful sunrise though.
