Photographer's Note
Back after a TrekEarth hiatus! Hope you have all had a safe and excellent festive season.
As a deuteranomalous dichromat (red-green colourblind), I think much of the impact of this image is probably lost on me, but hopefully not on you. My partner pointed out these (apparently) vivid blooms native to Australia and known as "Kangaroo Paw". To be honest, I had difficulty picking them out from the vivid green hedge behind...
It was a beautiful clear day down at the Ashcombe Maze on the Mornington Peninsula. If I got down low, I thought I could try for a composition that got the three primaries. Not sure if it worked, but I'll let you be the judge.

Hello Simon,
Good to see you back! I like this shot, it's a beauty. I love this photo痴 ability to highlight the beauty of one of Australia's iconic flora species, The Kangaroo Paw. The FG may be a touch bright for my liking but I think that regardless of this the image is pleasantly composed and the bench does look inviting. I would try to boost saturations; it might be able to allow for a greater impact here! Congratulations.

Hi Simon. Nice to hear from you again. I concur with Matt about the brightness and the composition. It is texturally a rich picture from the wood grain to the lawn behind. It would take a brave soul to sit under so many blooming flowers- with many visits from nectar loving birds and bees.Effective PoV.Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Simon,
Nice subject & composition. The green & red is well shown. A bit too bright on the road but still a very appealing image. Regards. Latiff.

Hello there, Simon.
Welcome back and happy new year. I have been checking on your gallery for quite a while and had given up on you.
Anyway, this one is a nice return with its warm winter colours and light, shadows, and gentle eye-pleasing slope behind the seat, which itself has a pleasing angle. I also like the kangaroo paws towering over the seat! Perhaps a tad over-exposed and I would try to sharpen it a step or two. But it has a really appealing colour range, which you say you can't appreciate! Oh well...
Best wishes for 2008 and keep shooting
Regards,
Andrew

Nice one, Simon! It's a good thing that you have such a colour sensitive partner, Simon. The bench is nicely placed and it makes a pleasant focus of interest. However, not saturation, in my view, but contrast. The foreground and much of the bench are devoid of any texture or detail, but these are in the shot. I tried it out. It need a touch more exposure in the foreground and just a little more in the bench to be perfect. It's still very good. regards Kevin
