Photographer's Note

On the way to visit Stanley we came across this deserted property.

Nestled in the hills at the edge of the Alps in North East Victoria, Stanley is approximately 8 kms from the historic town of Beechworth.

Stanley痴 population is approximately 690 comprising about 200 families (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley,_Victoria). People from all walks of life with varied interests bring a range of talent, skills and outlooks to this great community.

In addition to many fruit, berry and nut orchards for which the area is famous, Stanley has a thriving community that supports a primary school, general store and post office, a pub, a variety of bed and breakfast accommodation, direct sales from producers, a well established vineyard bearing the Stanley name and much more.

Stanley was formerly known as Snake Gully. Many properties in the area have the remains of gold diggings from the Victorian gold rush of the mid 1800s. The gold diggings can be easily seen as you drive through the district.
