The Dunlop Station shearing shed on the banks of the Darling River is world famous in the wool industry.
It was here that the first full scale mechanical shearing of sheep in the world took place in 1888. The introduction of mechanical shearing lead to a shearers strike. That in turn lead eventually to the formation of the Australian Labor party, one of Australia's 2 main political parties.
The main photo shows part of row the most recent shearing stands. There were 45 stands. It was belt driven (one belt is still hanging there) and steam powered. See the WS for the lost looking steam engine. Those holes in the wall are where sheep were pushed back down and outside after being shorn. Notice how uneven the floor is.
There are also some earlier stands and in the other WS you can see an old insect encrusted mechanism.
This old shearing shed is a great one to wander around and explore.
The shearing shed was last used in 1993 but the current owner hopes to reopen part of it.

Hi Neighbour, how's lockdown going for you? We in Melbourne are getting tired of it.
I like the use of the converging lines in this shot, also that it shows the wonkiness of the construction.
Cheers,
Steve

It doe's look old place, Ian, with older technique employed back in time's.
Saw several documentaries about sheep wool shearing, always with big guys holding the sheep with one hand...
The steam engine on the WS seems to be lost and rusty out there.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Ian,
I guess humans still used shearing tools though power came from the steam engine? Impressive place of agricultural history. And a very good note. I also like the steam engine WS.

Hello Ian,
Without any sheep or men it's hard to really imagine what this once looked like. The note helps a bit to create a sense of movements and sounds and smells. The main photo is certainly the most interesting, but both WS are attractive for showing machinery that time and neglect have turned into monuments.

Gert

Hi Ian,
The suite of red clamps is giving dynamism to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of this section of the shearing shed. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian
Missed this one. A good photodocumentary shot of the old mechanised sheep shearing shed. Certainly leaves click go the shears in the dust! Tfs!

ian
a nice view f the structure. I liked a lot the steam machine in the WS too. I presume wool lost its worth in these last 40 years, it isn't so used for fabrics as it was used in the past.
take care

Hello Ian,
Wow, we are looking at an historical artifact. I wonder if the new owner will keep the historic look.
