Te Araroa, a photo from Manawatu, North Island

Photographer's Note

Te Araroa (The long walkway) is a series of linked walking tracks that run the length of the country from Cape Reinga in the north to Bluff in the south, a total of 3000 KMs. The trail has its origins in The New Zealand Walkways Commission in 1975 but wasn稚 formalised until the Te Araroa trust was formed in 1994. At the moment there are still some sections that are not yet finished.
This particular section of track has only just been upgraded and added to the trail and runs right past my front gate! The photo shows where the track runs along the Rangitikei River before coming past my house.
There has always been some form of walking track along banks of the river here and I have been walking along here for years (along with my dog and camera ;-). I have a few other photos in my gallery from this area.

Hello Paul,

Nice composition looking to the top. It allows to use the sun reflection on the branches in foreground and to put them against the clouds pattern in the sky.
The fact that the clouds are going in the same direction of the river provides a good deepness to the photo.

Paul, the lighting you have captured here is fantastic, truly post card like. The color and shadows mix and the reflected light off the bottom of the clouds really work well to make this a memorable frame, great work.

I like the beautiful light on the branches on the foreground, specially in the left upper corner.
Also the silhouette of the tree that is a bit further away, close to the water.

The evening light is gorgeous, and is in the perfect direction for beautiful contrasts on the trees. I love how everything is leaning the same way into the frame. Even the diagonals of the clouds go in the same direction.

What gets me here is the light that illuminated the whole scenery so fantastically, especially on thie scatter cloud that dances across the sky, and it feel like it's till coming toward me. the bare trees seem to lean toward the sun bathing in the warm ray of light. Great light management of this fabulous sky. Clearly your front yard has a fabulous view and you framed it well. Next thing you know, you'll be a volunteer.

I read an article in the local paper about a volunteer who assists people on the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon (por son just did about 300 km of the trail in Southern California, it included five passes of 3560+ meters.
