Photographer's Note
Hi all.
I知 going through a little dry spell at the moment so I致e dug into my archive from a few months back come up with this shot.
This was taken on one our trips up to Whakatane and is nearly the half way point. The mountain is Ruapehu and just out of sight on the right is the town of Waiouru.
There was a strange light from a low angle sun and thin cloud cover that was almost like dusk. Bonus shot in WS.
Enjoy, Paul.

ciao Paul,
mi piace molto la tonalit scura della foto con la montagna innevata a a rischiarare il BG.
Ottima la diagonale della ferrovia che crea oltre a profondit anche dinamicit nello scatto.

Hi Paul,
nice atmosphere. Interesting light. Beautiful contrast between foreground and background. The mountain is great to see. Train line provides here secondary focal point, which is fine. Superb capture. Tfs.
Have a nice day.

Hi Paul,
Interesting that most of the shot is under cloud cover except for the middle part of the mountain.
That low band of cloud in the top third looks interesting too.
Nice composition, the tracks cut a good diminishing perspective, so too the poles.
You have any more gems like this lurking in your archive, wish I did.

Hello Paul,
Yes, very astonihing light but the very good managment of this light give a nice shot with a beautiful prospect effect and a greta depht. An image full of rythm and dynamism too with the good use of the rails and the cables in the composition.

Ol Paul, I can see that the light was tricky here but you did a great job. There's no signs of overexposition in those clouds and the lines of the raillway are excellent leading lines. My favorite element here is of course those mountains covered with snow, something I'm not used to and it's a powerful presence. I can even like more the WS that has wonderful textures and details.
Wish you a good weekend,

- Special mention to this very nice scenery Paul, the dual perspective of electrical and son rails seem to lead directly to this beautiful snowy mountain, it's superb under this amazing light, well done!

Hi Paul,
Mountain and railroad. As you may know my favourite themes. Very nice light. I see that snow line comes pretty low that time of year.

Hi Paul,
very well presented photography. I like to see the imponent snowed mountain as the final element but the railway and the poles do their part in the composition. Light is quite pleasant and the details are superb. Well done!

Hi Paul,
what a spectacular view ! You have chosen an excellent POV to present us the mountains with the rail nicely leading into the depth. The light is very attractive too - maybe a little bit strange - and the moody colors of the grass are matching perfectly. My compliments!

Great light!
Plus - apart from the stunning view - I also like the pov you chose. The track lines are a great element in the composition. I particularly like how they seem to disappear just before they reach their end. Great stuff, Paul!

Hi Paul,
It's interesting how you take profit of the poles on the FG, which normally would have much negative impact on the compo, as a compositional element. The light may not be the most spectacular, I guess the obsessive fans of HDR'ish saturated colours don't like it at all, but I find it "quietly beautiful".

Hi Paul
This is what I call "silver light" where the sun comes through some cloud to create a translucent effect. Nicely composed with the train trach acting as a leading line to the mountain.

Hello Paul,
The dry grass tells the story of the season, and the fresh snow on the summit indicates winter is coming up!
This is a well composed view, the rails reflects light and make a strong lead into the scene...
i notice the low hovering cloud that is wrapping the mountain!

Hi Paul
Modern time is here to stay, so you also got the railyway. In this picture the railway actually adds interest, without it would not work that nicely. The mountain partly in the clouds and the somber mood you have it captured perfectly. Well done

Hi Paul, my NZ friends often talk about going skiing at Ruapehu - now I know what it looks like. Tonal range is good here, with the white snow and cloud not blown out. I like the composition too, letting the mountain and sky dominate. Cheers, Steve

Hello Paul,
This way of railroad irresistibly brings us to this splendid covered mountain of its white coat Indeed this sky and this lighting give a curious relief to these tops and a particular atmosphere to the landscape. Interesting glance just like your beautiful photograph in WS, thank you Paul.

Hi Paul,
yes, the light is strange but at the same time creates a specially attractive atmosphere to this wonderful landscape presided by the huge mountains covered with snow.
The rails of the railroad and the posts are very effective in the image, its linear geometry and the perspective are a very important element also in the composition.
Excellent work, my friend.

Hi Paul,
The train would probably add another point of interest but as it is the shot is still very pleasant and very representative of a moody, spring day. Good perspective effect to show the track leading into the depth with land. I'm also very impressed with the view in the background. Well done!

This shot shows how to take advantage from adverse conditions: the dim light created an unusual atmosphere and the cloudy sky adds a halo of mistery to this superb mountain covered with snow. But of course it's the masterful composition which decides for the positive aspect: the long railway at the right place convey a strong sense of distance and perspective.
Well done,
