When the rain comes down along Milford Sound on a cruise you don't bother about having no sun - you just set a fast shutter speed and enjoy shooting away.
On very wet days like we had there are many temporary waterfalls along the steep cliffs of the sound.
Todays 3 photos show you just some of the waterfalls that suddenly appear.
I'll post another series of waterfall photos in a couple of days.

Hi Ian,
Nice photo well framed with these waterfalls, good dynamic effect, contrast capture is well managed. Your view of this landscape reminds almost same scenery of fjords in Norway, tfs.

Can only imagine the roar of the four cascades pouring an abundance of water to the NZ Fjord, Ian.
Found its approx. location on the map at -44.62, 167.87 and saw there are several other waterfalls there. A marbvelous place.
Good afternoon,

Hello Ian, Stunning compositions with the waterfalls. It is true everywhere - when there are rains you have spectacular waterfalls. In the dry season, you enjoy blue sky but with waterfalls dry. Fantastic green walls.

Hello Ian,
Three spectacular view with good sharpness. My favourite is probably WS #2 for the shape and the colours.

Hi Ian,
Milford Sound is a great place in any weather, but possibly best when the rain generates hundreds of waterfalls. So it's a good thing it rains nearly every day there. Your photo captures the might of the waterfalls. I prefer the portrait format workshop photo with the waterfall at the back coming straight out of the clouds and then bursting out in the foreground.

Hi Ian,
The scenery is impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the Milford Sound waterfalls. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Ian,
Amazing view of these waterfalls next to each other pouring to sea. The cliff is practically vertical and power of water is well visible. This also tells how much it rains over there.

Hi Ian,
Wow this is spectacular. Sometimes when I have a chance to see a beautiful place like this -I get quite discouraged from making local trips, realizing that anything I can see around is nothring in comparison to these beauties. This time even your photo itself discourages me from leaving house this weekend.
Amazing repeated motif of the waterfall. Great idea with close composition here. The workshop photos are equally attractive,
M

Hello Ian, all three shots would have been a worthy main post.
Such dramatic scenery and everything is so green.
I think that you probably needed a waterproof coat as the spray from the falling water is very apparent!
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
Your main photo reminds me a bit of the waterfalls in the Geirangerfjord in Norway, although I had sunny weather there.
The photo in WS 2 is incredibly impressive.

Hello Ian,
I can imagine that people will get very wet in the vicinity of these falls, with a noise that could be deafening!
Though all your photographs have fine details, my preference is for the one with the large waterfall, just a great composition.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Indeed, when you are on this kind of once in a lifetime trip you don't just keep your camera in its bag because of a bit of rain! Even if you are not intending to make them into posters advertising New Zealand tours... it's so lovely to look at those most personalised souvenirs later. I really enjoy browsing through my photos from past trips.
They are three lovely shots though. Well composed to show all the waterfalls at their best.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Ian
Hope the rain has passed in NSW. I remember the waterfalls of Milford. Did you see any seals? A spectacular part of the South Island. Bowen & Stirling Falls in particular. Tfs!
