Photographer's Note
I finally got my shot if the Comet McNaught. After what seems like weeks of overcast evenings we had one of partial cloud and then after waiting on the river bank for about an hour and a half the clouds parted and there it was. This image was shot with a standard 50mm lens on a tripod about 9 at night.
I know it痴 not the only shot of Comet McNaught on TE but it痴 my version. Simon (propofol) and Murray (dauntless111) also have photos of the Comet and I guess there are probably others also. In fact it was Simons that inspired me to get out and have a go.
The colour in the sky lower right is not the sunset but the lights of Bulls 1 or 2 KM痴 away.
I知 off on my summer holidays on Saturday for about a week so if I don稚 catch you before I will catch you after.
Enjoy.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Paul,
This not the first shot of this comet, but it's the best i have seen. Beautiful composition and exposition. The tail's comet is splendid... i also like the warm tones from city lights. Maybe you could erase the two connect tree in the foreground, even a beautiful shot, well done!

Hello Paul,
I like very much your photo. The frame is well balanced with the forest and tree with still some details visible and the comet on the top with enough place for the tail.
The color variation between the dark-blue of the sky and the orange of the town provide the last touch.
Do you get some noise issue with the exposure of 22sec, which setting for iso did you take?
Yves.

Hi Paul. Great atmosphere you have created here with the river in the foreground and silhouetted trees which together with the light(although man made) create a sense of timelessness. And then in the sky countless stars and the comet- reminding us of how brief is our stay on Earth. Emotive and conteplative work. Well done. Regards. Klaudio.Enjoy your holidays.

Hi Paul,
I have an image of the comet that I plan to post as well but your photo is absolutely amazing! The composition is fantastic and your light management is truly excellent. The lights of Bulls really add a nice touch here and the silhouetted trees to the left of the pic give it a very nice balance. I also love the detail you've captured in this low-light situation.
I'm very impressed by this outstanding image.

Hi Paul,
Wowo that's a nice result, you got plenty of stars and comet motion, and all that with an exposure of 22 seconds only ! Well thinking twice, I guess it was wise not to select a longer one, otherwise your comet would have been polluted by the stars motion, anyway a very interesting picture.
Have a nice day,

Hi Paul,
Congrats with this photo! Very nice, I haven't seen any other comet photo (thus also not another McNaught shot) so to me it's an original photo..and you've captured it very well! The image quality is very good, not too noisy, different stars are well visible, some brighter than others, which is nice. The light from Bulls (I guess it's a city/town ?) is a nice addition..and I think it actually did something for your photo. Nice colours, good foreground scene, I like that you've placed a few trees on the left of the frame. Very well done!!

Spectacular!!! And shot with a 50mm is still better. It just means that the comet was absolutely visible in the sky. Is it still visible? I am going back to Brisbane on Wednesday and I would like to try to spot it but, I do not know if it is still there and also if it is visible from Brisbane. I have to make some research, I guess. Well done.

Hello Paul.
Now that is a photo of a comet...I mean, THE photo of a comet. Such a beautiful tail; the proper name slips my mind right now. THe lights of the city(?) behind give some nice contrast to the dark blue of the sky...this helps to bring the whole shot together in a more dynamic way. Alot of times with such exposures we will see some blurring of the stars due to slight movement, none here...just great.
Best wishes,

the comet is stunning .. just drew me to this like a a magnet .. the color of the city on the water is really interesting ... I would add that I think I like that you left everything so dark .. If the trees came out of silhouette I bet it would detract from the comet .. I love the simple "here it is" presentation .. man I bet the exposure was a fun game.

Great capture Paul.
I wish I had a chance to even see it :o(
Nice composition, some good layers here. I like the framing with the forest and the lake in the foreground. I agree with cropping the grass on the bottom.

this photo is a masterpiece. Really nice way you put shapes of trees, reflections, a sun rise and stars making company to this comet.

Hi Paul,
This picture is on the entrance page of TE now.
Marvelous! It is a beautiful comet image! All other elements of the composition are very well chosen at a good position, as well. An excellent night capture.
Congratulations!

Hello Paul,
This really is a one off chance to catch the comet. It has nearly been one year since it was here, so I will post this critique now. I shared the same problem as you, overcast nights were so frustrating, and blocked the view of this great comet (many times brighter than Halley's Comet as my parents remember). Finally I was able to see it after sunset one night (January 23 I think it was), not long after sunset. There was a small crowd of people and I was the first to excitedly spot it. It was so surreal to witness. Unfortunately, I was unable to photograph this wonder myself as my camera was rather new and I had not studied the manual, and did not know how to take long exposures! Not to worry, I have remarkable photos like this to enjoy and remind me of that wonderful event. I may attempt a workshop of this to see if I can remove some of that fine speckle. TFS, it is a beauty. Shine on you crazy diamond!

Hi Paul,
much has already been said about this picture. Let me just say that it is absolutely awesome. The sunset effect (although it is not a real sunset) only adds to the overall stunning impression. This one goes straight to my favourites!
Thanks for sharing

Hi Paul,
I discovered your album and I'm in love. New Zealand is a country that makes me dream by the multiplicity of these beautiful landscapes that I discovered thanks to our friend Tony (Gracious). Here is a great time photographing you, you had to be patient, I think ... The picture quality is amazing in details and color management. Thank you Paul.
With all my friendships and a very good Sunday,
Jean-Charles
