What is the origin of the name Diamantina?
Diamantina was emancipated from the municipality of Serro only in 1831, changing its name to Diamantina because of the large volume of diamonds found in the region. Its name means: like the diamond. The formation of the municipality is intrinsically linked to the exploration of gold and diamonds. Around 1722, the settlement began, always following the banks of the rivers that were mined.
In 1938, the architectural ensemble of the city's Historic Center was listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute, and, in the late 1990s, worldwide recognition came: Diamantina receives the title of Cultural Heritage of Humanity from Unesco.
The Diamond Museum currently exists in the city and the city is also the birthplace of President Juscelino Kubitschek, who built the current capital Brasilia.
Qual a origem do nome Diamantina?
Diamantina emancipou-se do municpio do Serro somente em 1831, passando a se chamar Diamantina por causa do grande volume de diamantes encontrados na regi縊. Seu nome significa : como o diamante . A forma鈬o do municpio est intrinsecamente ligada explora鈬o do ouro e do diamante. Por volta de 1722, come輟u o surgimento do povoado, sempre seguindo as margens dos rios que eram garimpados.

Hello Ricardo,
This town creates many opportunities for similar compositions. But the buildings in the background are different. and most remarkable is how the light and colours of the sky changes for every new photo. Every photo has a new character, so it is difficult to pick a favourite.

Hello Ricardo,
A wonderful view of this corner of the town with some really lovely, charming houses. The two in the foreground create such a nice frame for the ones at the end of the street as well as for the purple sky. Well done.

Ol Ricardo,
With the quiet atmosphere, and no people around, this spot looks like it could be a movie set. The architecture is lovely, and so is the cobblestone street. The color of the sky is also very pretty. Take care!

Hi Ricardo,
A beautiful photo of this lovely town with sunset colours in the sky. The cobblestone streets and the old buildings add to the interest. Excellent sharpness and depth of field. No people in the street - is this because of covid?

Hello Ricardo,
Again, a most beautiful photograph, using an excellent viewpoint, where the buildings and the road tiles become irresistible guides from f/g to b/g.
The exposure is superb, capturing the colours which create the entrancing atmosphere.
The streets were very empty, is this a sign of Covid?
I have to ask, are diamonds still found in this region?
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi Ricardo,
Sunset light looks just great and you achieved a good balance between sky and foreground illumination. I especially like the light reflecting from old cobble stones. Well framed old town scene.

Hello Ricardo,
More wonderful colonial architecture.
Beautifully composed. The curving lines of the pavement lead us around the corner.
Very attractive colour of the sky.
