RAINY SUNDAY EVENING IN BRASﾍLIA, a photo from Distrito Federal, Center-West

Photographer's Note

I was crossing the Big Axis, the rain was above me, falling calmly, and the night was arriving. I crossed an area with a big mango trees collection located in the middle of the Big Axis and I found Buriti Square, one of the most famous squares of the city, but it was closed for restore. This square has nothing inside, only two huge pounds with fountains around and at center a monumental old buriti palm tree that was removed from a spot many kilometers far from Bras匀ia and planted in this square, it is a very beautiful and old palm tree with many centuries and one day a crazy man attacked it with an axe and almost kill it, the police took him to jail, after that the palm tree was supported by some steel cables and a metallic ring.
Here we can see the Palace of Buriti at left, where the governor of Federal District works, at right, with the pink lights, we can see the Tribunal of Accounts of Federal District, the higher buildings at side of the tribunal and the palace are extensions created after increase of bureaucracy. Here we can see maca炻a palm trees, another typical palm tree of Brazilian savana, different of the buriti ones.

Eu estava cruzando o Eix縊 quando passei ao lado de uma grande 疵ea com muitas mangueiras plantadas, depois encontrei a Pra軋 do Buriti, uma das mais importantes da cidade, mas o local estava fechado para restauro. Nessa pra軋 n縊 h� nada al駑 de dois tanques enormes com fontes e uma palmeira buriti, trazida de um ponto distante e plantada ali; � uma palmeira com v疵ios s馗ulos e muito grande. Certo dia um maluco atacou a palmeira com um machado e quase a matou. Hoje a palmeira est� protegida por um anel de metal e cabos de a輟.
Diante dessa pra軋 fica o Pal當io do Buriti, que voc� pode ver nessa foto � esquerda, sede do governo do DF. ﾁ direita, iluminado de luz rosa, est� o Tribunal de Contas do DF. Reparem que os dois pr馘ios mais altos s縊 anexos criados depois pelo aumento da burocracia. As palmeiras que vemos na foto s縊 maca炻as, t厓icas do cerrado, mas diferentes dos buritis.

Hello Jorge,
It was a wet day, it was getting dark and there was nobody else around. You captured an eerie and not entirely pleasant atmosphere, but it's an interesting photo of lamps reflected in the street and raindrops falling on your lens. The brutalist style architecture surrounded by emptiness underscores the image of an artificial city, at least in this area. It reminds me of parts of Islamabad in Pakistan, which has a similar background.

Hi Jorge,

I like the effect of the light of the lamposte on the wet street. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. THe rain is bringing out the reflections. Have a nice day.

Veyr nice evening capture here. In addition to the light which turned into stars I also like the hexagonal shapes which are probably drops of water, I suppose on the lens?
They are quite regular so the effect is quite nice.

Hi Jorge,your rainy trip is close to end,now very wet as i can see watching the light reflections on the road,completely desert and a good view of buildings despite the terrible light. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

If I'd taken this photo I probably would have got rid of those rain drops on the lens but they actually are very effective in capturing the feeling of rain. Well done.

Hello Jorge,

We tend to like sunny, bright weather but there is always a time for this type of weather, which is wet, grey and a tad gloomy. But well photographed, revealing the dark clouds, the reflected light on the wet surfaces all in a good composition, is absolutely full of atmosphere!
