Photographer's Note
Bogot - El Museo del Oro
As mentioned before, at the end of my journey through Colombia I regretted not to have seen more of the ancient civilizations.
Some very interesting pre-Columbian sites are located in the south of the country. For instance near San Agustin and Tierradentro. But Colombia is a very huge country and it痴 not possible to go everywhere in 24 days ...
Another famous site is Ciudad Perdida in the north. But the trek to these ruins isn稚 easy for an older guy like me. Honestly it痴 very difficult with the hot and humid climate near the Caribbean Sea.
Which is easy for everyone, of course, is a visit of the Museo del Oro (Museum of Gold) in the historic centre of Bogot.
The museum displays a selection of pre-Columbian gold and other metal alloys.
Also pottery, stone, shell, wood and textile archaeological objects are displayed.
All together the museum has a collection of 55.000 pieces of which 6.000 pieces are on display.
The main room is called 善eople and Gold in pre-Hispanic Colombia.
In glass cases it displays the goldsmith work of the different cultures which inhabited Colombia before the Spanish arrived.
The room is divided into different halls for every culture: Calima, Quimbaya, Muisca, Zen, Tierradentro, San Agustn, Tolima, Tairona and Urab.
You should definitely not forget to visit this Museo del Oro. Remember that it receives around 500.000 visitors per year. However, in every hall I had enough time and space to view and photograph the objects.
Data and figures from Wikipedia.
Archeologists have traced 15.000 years of history on the high plains, the mountain slopes and in the inter-Andean valleys of the Eastern Cordillera.
For 10.000 years groups of humans lived by hunting.
About 5.000 years ago they gradually changed their means of subsistance and took up agriculture and pottery.
After the Spanish arrived in 1536 these civilizations perished.

Hello Paul,
I love this work of art you are showing us. I am a bit puzzled about how it looks suspended in the air. If you eliminated shadows and other distractions, congratulations on your post-processing. If not, the museum need to be congratulated on an excellent display.

Hello Paul, You were quite long time in Colombia- 24 days. But one must make choices what to see. Probably I would first go to San Agustin. The Gold Museum is very famous. Excellent presentation of this figure. I visited similar museums in Lima and in La Paz. They were fascinating.
Kind regrad s Malgo

Hello Paul,
As you probably know I love photos that include people, and here I get close views of persons in all three photos. It doesn't matter that they are hand made. They are all beautiful artistic items, well presented by the museum, and by you. Seeing objects like these, so old and so beautifully made, is always totally mind-blowing.
Kind regards,
Gert

Dag Paul,
Het beeldje is mooi gefotografeerd, zeker met de mooi afgelijnde achtergrond.
Scherpte en helderheid zijn van hoog kwaliteit.
Ook de beide WS foto's zijn zeker niet slecht.
Mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit een druppelend Vlaanderen,

Hallo Paul,
Prachtige close-up foto van dit eeuwenoude beeldje. Technisch is de foto uitstekend, goede scherpte en lichtval, zodat elk detail duidelijk te zien is. De warme gele kleuren zijn heel prettig.

Hi Paul. It's always interesting to visit museums, especially one like that with unique and curious things to watch from the precolombian era. This is just a small but very interesting post,an excellent capture despite the difficult situation. But as i know, these aren't the prefered pics of the TE members..ehhee...thanks and have a nice evening,Luciano

Hello Paul
An interesting pre Columbian artifact, obviously a female figurine and made of gold. Good sharpness and tight framing and good lighting for a low level interior shot from a museum. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
Your notes are a great addition to the photograph.
I still find it difficult to get my head around how people discovered metal and how to work it once they had made the discovery. I suppose the many thousands of years history lay testament to how slow things developed then, as opposed to today!
This is a lovely piece of art. I love the decorative details which might suggest that these people used tattoos.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Ciao Paul
la provenienza del popolo ha poca importanza in confronto alla bellezza di queste antiche opere e del loro valore storico e artistico.
Ottime anche le foto, non mai facile fotografare nei musei.

Hello, Paul!
Very nice presentation of this sculpture, captured with perfect light and sharpness! The note about the museum is also excellent! I didn't go to Bogot when I went to Colombia, so I didn't have the opportunity to visit this interesting museum. Was that hanging on the wall?

Hi Paul,
very interesting artifact. I like watching products of ancient civilizations, sadly my daughter does not share the interest. In the UK many museums have sections for children which is really great but then children rarely want to leave those sections...
This is so well photographed it feels as if it was floating in the air. Quite unique and characteristic.
24 days! I haven't been in such a long trip ever...
Fantastic!
