Photographer's Note

ENGLISH: This is another shot of my "happy place" the Isle of Procida in the Gulf of Naples. The title of this photo means "Great South" and is taken from the song of the same name by Eugenio Bennato. The song speaks of a love for Southern Italy, the immigrations to other countries around the world, and the fact that those emigrants bring the South with them in their hearts. Bennato is Neapolitan and sings many of his songs in the Neapolitan dialect. I have provided a link to the song for you to listen to and I must thank our TE friend Valter (Bayno)

i toni dorati di questa foto sono quasi come la tua firma.
Solo tu riesci a ottenerli. Io ci sono riuscito soltanto una volta nella foto dell'Anzac Bridge.

Bella vista verticale di Procida con il molo in FG a dare profondit� all'immagine.

Riguardo Bennato, io preferisco la musica del fratello Edoardo.

I like the overall colour neither quite orange nor yellow; it痴 a kind of very Lisuzza colour. : ) You are often over there aren稚 you? I don稚 blame you. The further you go the more you think about the place that you miss. I am not going to talk about myself here again. But the photograph is very nicely representing what is on your mind. I was in Italy a long ago. But I was simply a tourist. For you, the place belongs to your identity. I am very glad though that you are not sad about being away from your land. The very beautiful view, and the colours, the place you think about are closer than you think? Thank you for sharing your feelings. I try to imagine what you feel.

Ciao Lisa,

Another fine shot at the end of the day (though I'm not quite sure which end, but I'd bet it was the late end rather than the early end) with gorgeous colour in the sky echoed by the similarly beautiful reflections on the water.

You have a wonderful skill in pictures such as this, where mountains, boats and other structures are almost silhouetted against a light background, to be able still to preserve an amazing amount of detail in the darkest parts of the picture. This one is no exception.

Stunning detail and sharpness as usual.

Gidday Napolilisa,

Like everyone else an attractive sunset image, and for me, an end of-the-day view of the placid Mediterranean and fishing boats asleep.

It was 'rock jetties' like this where I learned to deep sea fish with my Dad as a little boy. Those giant boulders jutting far out to sea were intimidating to a 5 year old, but not for long...

hi lisa, this is another lovely tranquil scene. you manage to get in a lot of sunrises and sunsets. i'm either in bed or driving home from work on the motorway. certainly never any scenery like this. the colours are reflective of the perfect atmosphere. i might have been tempted to crop off the top couple of cms and just kept in the cloud on the left, as the colour seems a little washed out above it. i think it would also draw more attention to the lovely rippled texture of the waves in the lower part. either way its a lovely picture.

Hello Lisa,

The warmth of the evening sky and its reflection in the waters produces an effect which is almost like sepia; it gives it a very timeless, tranquil feeling.
The protective, rocky outcrop, with its parallel line of boats, is very well positioned in the frame, guiding towards the off-centre concluding mountain.

A wonderful picture of the marina! The row of boats 'parked' looks beautiful! They are being parked against an island, which appears volcanic. The light is beautiful! The sky has pastel hues with silhouette of the hills in the BG. Fine work!

Another great take from your fav backyard of Sicily and all the better for it! The comp works well from this pov, it has so much interesting detail in shadows areas , and the stunning evening light is simply beautiful and the sky and glow on the sea really set this apart. You made a good choice on shutter speed - not to slow to loose the detail from the sea while the diagonal lines of breakwater and boats lead into the image and up into the distant. That gentle ripples make a lot of difference. It's well exposed and the light is just breathtaking! I certainly do not to pretend to be an expert, but this shot really inspires me and I am sure many others too and a joy to view, Lisa. Great shot, Congrats

I am glad you are back. I was searching forums to find out what is wrong, why you are not there. Luckily, nothing was wrong, even better: you had vacations so you have probably come with plenty of new photos from a new destination. I am looking forward to seeing them. About me: I have some job interviews again so I feel a bit more optimistic but still nothing sure about the future. Cross your fingers.

The photo is spectacular of course. Amazing color of the sky, plus the reflection of the color in the water. Very well thought through composition with the small bay created for marina positioned diagonally in the foreground. The dark silhouettes look fantastic. Incredible atmosphere.
