Photographer's Note
Guilty of repetition I know, but I am posting another shot of this contrast of building styles on Brighton & Hove seafront in East Sussex, England. Where the simplicity of the colourful beach huts on the promenade, sits just meters away from some of the more ornate and plush mansions that grace this part of the City. Many of you, including my cyber mate Craig (macjake), thought my previous post had perhaps too much sky, so this is the landscape version, as a comparison, that was taken at about the same time. This shot includes one of the more incongruous buildings that unfortunately have been allowed to also grace the city skyline.

Hello Brian,
Oh, dear, that Craig fellow is never happy, is he? I thought that your last picture from here was stunning and I never tire of looking at your glorious skies - I remember well your recent masterpiece which was 95% sky and about 5% fence and it was one of the most compelling images I have ever seen here. But I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Like your last photograph from here, this one again owes much of its beauty and its appeal to the glorious light on the fa軋des of the foreground beach huts and the splendid buildings behind them. Thankfully the rather incongrous cuboid and featureless building to the right is less well lit and so does not intrude into the image but rather helps to frame it very effectively.
Your long focal length has compressed the perspective very effectively here to provide an excellent composition. The light is sublime, the colours wonderfully vibrant, your exposure perfect and the details and sharpness exquisite. And, of course, that sky is glorious - just wish we could see a little more of it (only joking).
Stunning!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Brian,
comparing this one to your previous shot I think the horizontal format suits better this scene. The long row of colorful huts looks amazing, but also the houses in the BG look very stylish.Superb juxtaposition and of course light, which helps to bring out so delightful colors.
Kind regards

Hi Brian. firstly I noticed the light that accentuates every line and contour, then the kaleidoscope of colours and next the patterns that fill the image. An absolutely accomplished photo showing high knowledge of the medium. Best wishes. Klaudio.

Hello Brian,
If anything, the lighting in this shot is even more captivating than the previous posting and the colours are quite sumptuous. Excellent work, nothing more to be said.

hello Brian. Another colourful one from this series. Like the depth you achieved by f-14... Nice composition indeed with the blue sky on the top of these houses. Tfs.

Hi Brian
haha....for the record I must say that I enjoy BOTH photos , but i DO enjoy this one more! haha
I believe this version is a more successful photo in terms of execution and sophistication. The landscape compo 'stretches' the huts outwards and we get the sense as viewers of the photo that it continues on at each end for infinity.
The vertical compo doesn't have that same feeling of continuous subjects. Know what I mean?
I look at this version and think...my god, how long does this go on for!!??
Amazing colors, light, compo, subjects...perfect!!
and you're 100% correct about that ugly building on the far right...how on earth did THAT make it onto the same street!! haha
beauty!
cheers

Brian...
After contemplating the "portrait vs. landscape" versions of this image for an entire two minutes, I think I prefer this one! It gets back to the Q I try to ask myself as I prepare an image for presentation: what am I trying to show? The follow-up Q, then, is, am I using the available area in the most effective way to show it?
Great skies are great skies, but the color-soaked beach huts and the plush mansions are what make this an image worth looking at... for two minutes or longer!
All my best,
Russ

Hi Brian, I agree, there was a bit too much of the blue sky on the previous shot, I liked it anyway. But this version is better. Simple huts and so attractive!
have a nice weekend

Hello Brian - Interesting to see both the landscape and vertical comparison of these wonderful huts. While I think that this is a fine shot, the previous one is the one I prefer. To my mind it has an airier look with the beautifully figured sky. It seems as if I am outvoted through and most people prefer this one! Both shots are excellent though and I will award this one a worthy 2 points ;) Enjoy your weekend. Rosemary

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the welcome back, always great to hear from you! Wow, this was a tough call...both versions of this have their own merits for composition. Frankly, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I chose this one though because I like how the horizontal layout stretches the frame.....and for someone like me that likes color...well, this is packed full from side to side! :) Amazing light too, this is a fun mixture of style and form with great layered effect. Beauty shot! Hope you're having a nice weekend.
Friendly regards from back in the oven,
Jason
Glad your temps finally cooled off, I'm back to baking in the sun. Never thought I'd look forward to winter until moving to PHX!?

Hi Brian
What an exciting contrast, there the row with colourful beach huts and behind the row of the conventional English style houses. Above then the blue sky. Very attractive POV with vivid colour hues. Well done
Warm regards

Hi Brian!
Those colorful cabins are really attractive! But the buildings behind them, with their colors and architectural details are no less beautiful either! Thus, the overall composition with them and that sky is so eye-catching and this picture is certainly wonderful!
TFS - congrats,
Cheers,

Hello Brian,
This second post is also super. I like the long line of brightly coloured beach huts but do find the modern apartment block spoils it just a little. As for the sky - I can go with more or less as it is such an interesting one. Great photography and a nice TE debate!
Kind Regards, Ann
