Photographer's Note
On the 7th day of our trip in Iceand, we leaver the farm of Mödrudalur and drive on the road 1 to the Mývatn lake region, one of the most touristic places in Iceland. We will stay there for a few days. One of the most known places in the area is Namaskard, a passs to the east of the Mývatn lake. On the east side of the Namafjall mountain there is an impressive hydrothermal site named Hverarönd (or sometimes Hverir). It has a few hot springs, fumaroles, boiling mud pots and very active solfataras. The underground water is heated by the magma chamber of Krafla volcano and resurfaces full of minerals (mostly sulfur) and volcanic gases (in particular hydrogen sulphide). The condensation and the crystallization then create a fantastic landscape ! Marked paths run through the site, and you should stay on them if you want to avoid serious problems : the ground is very fragile in some places and you could put your feet in boiling water or mud ! The other inconvenience of the site is the rotten eggs smell because of hydrogen sulphide (but you accustom to this bad smell) and the many small flies that invade the area at the time of the year we were there (late spring / early summer). And this is a lot harder to accustom to these unbearable bugs !

Hello Olivier,
This is a first class shot of this volatile area. The colours are nicely saturated and beautifully softened in places by the steam. The solitary figure gives scale and also a feeling of danger! It reminds me of parts of Yellowstone N.P. which of course has similar hydrothermal areas.
A gorgeous image and one that I will put in my favourites.
Kind Regards, Ann.

Hi Olivier
Very interesting notes about watching your step around here, the flies, and of course the smells! Your phito is very well thought out, with the 1 person adding just the 1 focal point but it works smartly. Love the atmosphere and colors too.
Cheers

Bonjour Olivier,
Christian
PS : comment as-tu protégé ton matos ?

Hello Olivier.
Sensational image, which offers a nice range of colors, from the lands of the mountain, with its varied textures, steam coming out of the earth is a great addition, the presence of that person capturing images is a perfect complement.
Sensational sharpness and brightness.
Well done.
Good start to the week.
Best wishes.
Luis.
