first light, a photo from Down, Northern Ireland

Photographer's Note

this was taken on the beach in newcastle, co down, just after sunrise on june 21st. it was the summer solstice, and the beginning of the longest day of the year.

'solstice' literally means 'sun-stopping'. it is the point on the horizon where the sun appears to rise and set.

for this picture, however, i turned my back on the rising sun to capture the first light of the day falling over the coastline.

Hi Brian,
Nice to see you post! And what a beauty of a shot. The light falling on that distant mountain is spectacular, so hard to get that kind of light with that kind of color in the sky. The little shimmering silver pieces in the sand give a really magical quality to this, while the broken wooden structure seems to be marching into the sea. Beautiful photo.

The thumbnail was intriguing enough to let me open it...
Glad I did because I just love that atmosphere. It is the kind of skies we had so many time in Scotland and in Scandinavia and I always think it is stunning, clouds and sun, light and darkness, on that lonely beach...

It is a magical place,specially when when you were there on this speciall day of the year. Beautiul sunrise, you had to get up very early! I like the row of these wooden poles,great composition with fabulous light. Beautiful picture.

Hi Brian,
Great shot ! The POV is very good with the pots in the FG that add depth. But what makes this photo great is the fantastic light you had on the mountains, constrasting with the wonderful cloudy sky.

Beautiful composition, though I wouldn't expect anything else from you. The line of the old breakwater in the foreground is a vital feaature; but of course what draws our eyes is the vibrant patch of sunlight on the further shore. And the more subtle colours of the dawn light. Well worth getting up for!

So stunning and also appealing landscape image in nice panfiocus appraoch. Delicate exposure makes so dramatic output as such. Partial light getting is so touchy.
