Queenstown (Māori: Tāhuna) is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island.

The town is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes, and has views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak and just above the town; Ben Lomond and Queenstown Hill.

The Queenstown-Lakes District has a land area of 8,704.97 square kilometres not counting its inland lakes (Lake Hāwea, Lake Wakatipu, and Lake Wanaka). Queenstown is known for its commerce-oriented tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism.
A resort town, Queenstown boasted 220 adventure tourism activities in 2012. Skiing and snowboarding, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping, paragliding, sky diving and fly fishing are all popular.

The TSS Earnslaw is a 1912 Edwardian vintage twin screw steamer plying the waters of Lake Wakatipu in New Zealand. It is one of the oldest tourist attractions in Central Otago, and the only remaining commercial passenger-carrying coal-fired steamship in the southern hemisphere.
The Earnslaw was designed by naval architect Hugh McRae and was based on a Siemens-Martin steel hull design and using Kauri for the decking. Propulsion was provided by twin coal-fired triple-expansion, jet-condensing, vertically inclined engines. The keel was laid on 4 July 1911. The ship was named after Mount Earnslaw, a 2889-metre peak at the head of Lake Wakatipu.

In March 1990, the Earnslaw carried Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Other royalty to travel on board have been the King and Queen of the Belgians and the Prince of Thailand.

The TSS Earnslaw made a brief cameo appearance in the movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) as an Amazon River boat.

I was lucky to see this historical vessel on the evening cruise :).

Hello Malgo,

Not only have you managed a lovely shot of the steamer, perfectly placed in the frame, but you have also set it against a backdrop of mountains and beneath an amber sky which creates a very moody atmosphere. It's a great memory from your fantastic visit to New Zealand.

Witaj Malgorzata If you pay close attention to the steamer's funnel, it seems to have diluted the colors in whole sky of a slight soot cloak, particularly in the upper part! Thanks for showing by the rules book this piece of serenity featuring a magnificent backdrop set in greenery on either side. Pozdrawiam

What a great experience it must be to go on a cruise around the bay in such great circumstances. The evening looks beautiful with a gentle sunlight piercing through the clouds. Great composition, well balanced between the trees and the ship in the foreground in front of the mountainscape beyond. I like how the smoke seems to mingle with the clouds too.

So great to see this historic steam ship on the lake surrounded by high mountains. The sky has lovely colours. You have framed this scene nicely with trees on both side. This kind of view brings Switzerland to my mind.

The boat is very nice but the scenery is even nicer. It's a beautiful view of the mountains surrounding the calm lake, and the evening colours create a fine atmosphere. The photo is well composed with trees framing the view of the old boat.
