Photographer's Note
Eleftherna was an ancient city that was founded in the 9th BC century and flourished in the Hellenistic and the Roman periods.rnIt was rebuilt in the early-Byzantine period between 430-450 AD. It was a major city, since it was the seat of the Bishop. These are the remains of a tower from that time, on the edge of today's village.rnEleftherna started to decline after an earthquake in 796 and was destroyed after the Arab conquest (824).
