Photographer's Note

A picture of a rakhi shop on the rakhi festival held on the full moon of Shraavana according to the lunar calendar which fell on the 28th of August this year.

These threads are no ordinary threads but rakhis..the reaffirmation of the love that a sister has for her brother.

The sister ties the holy thread on her brother and the brother promises to protect her life-long, and gives her a token gift or money in return. It is one of the most beautiful expressions of love for ur siblings, something you might never express otherwise.
In fact all my 3 year old niece(my bro痴 daughter)could say when she saw the ceremony was..努ow!!

So powerful is this promise, that in history a war has been known to be averted because the Rajput queen went and tied rakhi to a Mughal king (I can稚 remember names) and the Mughal king was obliged to protect her and her family.

India thus has the tradition of rakhi brothers where a girl ties a rakhi to somebody and even though they may not be related in blood, they honour that relationship life long..the flip side ..attendance falls in colleges during those days as boys are afraid that the girl that they consider a prospective date may tie a rakhi on them(Trust me I read an article in the paper :)
The image is absolutely natural..no PS work..except for the frame.
