The annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, California was started in 1890 as a way to promote the 'Mediterranean of the West' in the midddle of winter by the Valley Hunt Club. The parade also became a way to showcase the charm of the city of Pasadena. The parade has grown over the years and is celebrating its' 124th parade this year. Feel free to add your photos of the parade to this group theme.

The High Sierras in California are a mountainous region in the Sierra Nevadas. Both the western and eastern sections are spectacular displays of granite, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, high peaks and forests. Yosemite, Sequoias,Kings Canyon and Tahoe.

Yosemite National Park, in the Western United States, spans eastern portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera counties in the central, eastern portion of California, in the area called the High Sierras. The park spans an area of about 1,190 sq. miles and is best known for its waterfalls. It's a gorgeous wilderness area filled with granite domes, lakes, trails, forests, and rivers. The photos in this theme are from the Citrus Classic Hot Air Balloon Festival. This is the fourth annual hot air balloon festival located in Santa Paula, Calif. Plenty of open space in the countryside of Ventura County. It was cloudy in Southern California and we got rain, but the balloons were able to make their ascensions. They had been grounded the day before this three day festival. White/gray sky presents a challenge to a photographer.
